Anna Maria Hong is the author of three recent books: (Cleveland State), winner of the Poetry Society of America’s Norma Farber First Book Award and the Cleveland State University Poetry Center’s First Book Poetry Competition, the novella (Sidebrow Books), winner of the A Room of Her Own Foundation’s Clarissa Dalloway Prize, and (Tupelo Press), winner of the Berkshire Prize. She is the editor of Growing Up Asian American (William Morrow/Avon Books), an anthology of fiction and memoir, and the author of a nonfiction book for teenagers titled Family Abuse: A National Epidemic (Enslow). She has published poetry, fiction, and essays in many publications including The Nation, The Iowa Review, Harvard Review, 250 Poems, Best New Poets, and The Best American Poetry.
Hong’s teaching and research interests include fiction writing, poetry writing, hybrid-genre and collaborative works, contemporary literature by Asian American Pacific Islander and other BIPOC authors, feminist fabulist fiction, and poetic and literary form. Her awards include a Bunting Fellowship at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, Poetry magazine’s Frederick Bock Prize, and residencies from Yaddo, Djerassi, Fundación Valparaiso, and Kunstnarhuset Messen.
Hong has collaborated with numerous visual artists and composers and is currently working with the composer Allen Shawn, the theater director Jean Randich, and the filmmaker Sue Rees to adapt Fablesque and H & G to a multimedia theater piece titled H & G, a great and terrible story, which will premiere at Bennington College’s Lester Martin Theater in May 2022. She has previously taught at the University of Pennsylvania, Bennington College, Ursinus College, and the University of Washington Bothell.
