Andrae Green, a Jamaican artist based in Western Massachusetts, explores existential themes and family relationships through his artwork. His paintings convey emotions and impressions filtered through imaginative allegory, unearthing liminal feelings of vulnerability, hope, and desire.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Green's early artistic influences came from Marvel and DC comics, the only accessible art in his youth. Economic hardship and social unrest led him to find solace in art, education, and faith, sparking a rich inner world populated by whimsical characters embodying hope and freedom.
Green holds an MFA from the New York Academy of Art (2008) and a BFA from Edna Manley College (2004). His accolades include a Chase Fund Jamaica scholarship, Experience Jamaique Artist-in-Residence in Geneva, and multiple representations at the Beijing Biennale. He was the U.S. representative at the Salon de Soci茅t茅 Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris (2013) and a finalist for prestigious grants.
His work has been exhibited globally, including at the National Gallery of Jamaica, Maddox Gallery Los Angeles, and the Investec Cape Town Art Fair. In 2023, Green's first museum solo show, "Palindrome: Back To Hope," was held at the Art Complex Museum in Duxbury, Massachusetts.
Through his art, Green continues to explore the depths of human experience and the collective unconscious, creating works that are both reflective and hopeful.
